It appears that Pat Northy is pushing ahead on stopping the driving on Daytona Beach (I just love politicians that try to fix something that is not broke). Now here are the facts. Two children died on Daytona Beach last year..........tragic. Could it have been prevented? I don't know. Should the parents been watching the children closer? I don't know. But I do know it was a tragic ''' accident '''. But why close one of the best known tourist destination in the world because of the 'accident(s)'? How many children (and adults) have been killed on rides at Disney? I don't know. I do know that in most cases it had something to do with the ride opposed to Daytona and the sand. However no one is calling for the closure of Disney World. There are miles and miles and miles of beaches in Florida where there is no driving. Why take the only area that allows driving on the beach and stop it? Why do that? The desires of many should out way the wants of a few.

I read on POP and then I read it here. Here I can respond. Your right. However I know there are probably a lot of accidents than can be prevented if people would get OFF their cell phones. If we want to stop problems then lets address the reason not the area. The reason for the accidents on Highbanks was clear, the reason for the accidents on Ft. Florida was clear, kids fooling around. The accident on the beach was just that an accident. Tragic terrrible awful but it was an accident they all were. So lets start by addressing the causes instead of the areas and change areas that don't need changes. See Mr. Miester Highbanks is fine without your dumb 15 mile per hour speed limit idea.

I do admit that I was wrong. I just read the report myself. I also expressed my ideas onj the Dialog blog. One thing that doesn't bother me is having the 15 mile an hour speed limit during school pickup and drop off hours.

15 mile per hour during school pick up and drop off is reasonable (around the school). 15 miles per hour down Highbanks is not and we don't have enough officers to enforce such a task
